Creating a Target Set Overview

When adding target holdings to a Target Set, the current asset allocation of the Target Set is displayed in the Compare section. The asset allocation for a selected risk profile is also shown in the Compare section, allowing you to compare the Target Set asset allocation to the risk profile.

Note

  • Before creating a Target Set, ensure you have all security and exchange codes, i.e. APIR codes for the managed funds and ASX codes for direct shares (as applicable).

How do I create a new Target Set?

To create (or set up) a new Target Set:
  1. Go to XPLAN > Orders and Modelling Functions > Portfolio Modelling:

  2. In the menu on the left-hand side, go to Target Sets > Target Sets:

  3. In the category list, select the category for the new Target Set:

  4. A list of Target Sets in the selected category will be displayed:

  5. Click above the list of Target Sets. The Edit Target Sets dialog box will be displayed.

  6. Enter the Target Set Name and a Description.
    1. The Target Set Name must start with an alphanumeric character. All other characters must be alphanumeric or one of: . _ | & -
    2. You can add notes for the Target Set in the Comment box.

  7. From the Benchmark dropdown list, select a benchmark for the Target Set to use, if required.

  8. Set the following permission settings:

    1. Target Set Owner: The user to be the Target Set’s owner.

    2. Only Editable by Target Set Owner: Can be used to prevent all other users from modifying the target set.

    3. Visible to All: Selecting Yes will make the target set visible to all users.

  9. From the Risk Profile dropdown list, select the required risk profile. In the Compare area the asset allocation percentage for the selected risk profile will be displayed.

  10. To add a target holding to the Target Set, click Screen_Shot_2018-08-08_at_11.25.50_AM.png in the Targets section:

  11. A new row will be displayed.

    1. If a benchmark has been selected, click Load Benchmark to automatically load the securities from the selected benchmark. These can be manually adjusted if required.

  12. Enter the target holding’s Security, Exchange and the Target %.

    1. For example, WBC ASX 50 would model a portfolio to have 50% of value as WBC.ASX shares.
    2. As you set the percentages, the current asset allocation of the Target Set is displayed in the Compare section against the select risk profile.

  13. Repeat Steps 10 & 12 for each target holding to be added.

  14. Click Save.

Reminder

Target Sets can also be created using an existing Target Set:

  1. Edit an existing Target Set.

  2. Click Save As.

  3. Enter a new Target Set Name.

  4. Edit the new Target Set, as required.
