Datafeed - Troubleshooting Guide: iOS Datafeed

iOS Datafeed Troubleshooting Guide Overview

  • The ‘Orders’ section in the XPLAN IPS module provides access into a part of the brokers IOS system. (Note: for datafeed troubleshooting purposes you only need to view the data in this section)

  • The ‘Trading Position and Contract Note’ screens are the only two screens relevant to the datafeed and as such, when troubleshooting the datafeed these are the only two screens that should be referenced.

  • The ‘Trading Positions’ screen displays the shares the client has with the broker, including the volume (number of units) of each share held. The positions in this screen are compared with the holding balances in IPS to identify out of balance issues.

  • The ‘Contract Notes’ screen shows the contract notes that the broker has loaded into their IOS system. These are the only trades that will be imported via the datafeed into IPS

  • Adjustments, Corporate actions and Transfers are not provided by the broker (via IOS) and as such, need to be manually actioned.

iOS Orders section not viewable in XPLAN IPS module

  • Check there is an IOS login for the client adviser and that it is valid (refer section entitled

  • Check there is an IOS connection for the client

  • Check that you have the appropriate capabilities to view the IOS Orders section AND the user against who the broker code is mapped also has the capability to view the IOS Orders

  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive. You will need to provide a screen shot showing the contract notes in the brokers IOS system and very clearly identify which trades are missing from XPLAN.

Unable to add an iOS connection

  • Check there is an IOS login for the client adviser and that it is valid (refer section entitled ‘Testing the IOS Login Connection’)

  • Check that you have the appropriate capabilities to view the IOS Orders section AND the user against who the broker code is mapped also has the capability to view the IOS Orders Section

  • If you can see the Contract Notes screen (IPS > Orders > Contract Notes) for other clients under the same broker – contact the broker to ensure the adviser has access to the account concerned

  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive.

iOS Data isn’t viewable in XPLAN IPS Portfolio Position screen

  • Check the datafeed has been activated for your dealer group. If you have the relevant capability this can be checked in XPLAN (Home Page > Datafeed Functions > System Datafeeds > Platforms > Summary) or alternatively, your Site Administrator will be able to confirm this.

  • Check there is an IOS login for the client adviser and that it is valid (refer section entitled ‘Testing the IOS Login Connection’)

  • Check there is an IOS connection for the client

  • Check there are transactions showing in the Contract Notes screen (IPS > Orders > Contract Notes)

    • If transactions are showing in the Contract Note screen:Check if there is a Vendor Date lock recorded (Home Page > Datafeed Functions > System Datafeeds > Platforms > Summary). If so, only trades with a date after the date of the vendor lock will be imported into XPLAN

    • Run an account refresh

    • If there are no transactions in the Contract Note Screen you will need to add them manually as only the contract notes shown in this screen will import into XPLAN or, you can contact the broker to see if they can add the historical trades

  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive. You will need to provide a screen shot showing the contract notes in the brokers IOS system and very clearly identify which trades are missing from XPLAN.

iOS Account out of balance

  • Check that all contract notes displayed in the Contract Notes screen are viewable in the IPS transactions screen for the holding in question.

    • If all transactions are in IPS: you  may  need  to  run  corporate  actions  or  manually  enter  any  ‘off-market’ transactions / transactions traded through another broker in order to bring the account into balance
    • If not all transactions are in IPS: Refer the section entitled ‘IOS Missing Transactions’
  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive. You will need to provide a screen shot showing the contract notes in the brokers IOS system and very clearly identify which trades are missing from XPLAN.

iOS Missing Transactions

  • Check if the missing transaction/s is showing in the Contract Notes screen (IPS > Orders > Contract Notes)

    • If the transaction is showing in the Contract Note screen: Check if there is a Vendor Date lock recorded (Home Page > Datafeed Functions > System Datafeeds > Platforms > Summary). If so, only trades with a date after the date of the vendor lock will be imported into XPLAN

    • Run an account refresh
    • If the missing transactions are not in the Contract Note Screen you will need to add them manually as only the contract notes shown in this screen will import into XPLAN or, you can contact the broker if they were the broker who performed the trades in question.

  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive. You will need to provide a screen shot showing the contract notes in the brokers IOS system and very clearly identify which trades are missing from XPLAN.

Two holding positions

This can occur when a client’s account with one vendor is subsequently closed and established under a different vendor with some or all of the same underlying assets.

This can be confirmed by viewing the transactions for the holding where you’ll see the two different Datafeed vendors in the Vendor Name column. For example, in the screen shot below we can see that data for the MQG.ASX holding was originally coming via the 3PECS datafeed and is now coming via the PENSON datafeed.

To correct this, the old holding needs to be merged into the new holding and a subfund date lock applied. Before doing this, check for and delete any duplicate transactions.

Testing the iOS Login Connection

This check can be performed if the XPLAN site is on version 2.0 or greater.

To test the iOS Login Connection:

  • Access the IOS Accounts screen – XPLAN Home > Portfolio Functions (or) Orders and Modelling Functions > iOS Accounts

  • Enter the Adviser code and search

  • Click the dropdown arrow to the left of the adviser code and click Edit Login

  • Click the ‘Test Connection’ button.

  •  If the test returns an Unsuccessful message you will need to contact your broker to confirm your username and obtain a new password

  • If this doesn’t resolve the issue, raise the issue with XPLAN Support or your Account Executive. You will need to supply the login and password details provided to you by the broker and at least one sample account with a supporting Statement or screenshot from the broker showing the trades for that account.
